 Why You Should use Epsom Salt in the garden

Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) provides two important nutrients (magnesium and sulfur) that are essential for vigorous plant growth and development.

magnesium is very important for cell wall development in plants and also helps plants why you should use Epsom salt in your gardenabsorb essential nutrients like phosphorous, nitrogen and sulfur.

sulfur is a beneficial soil addictive that helps correct alkalinity and helps prevent sulfur deficiency in plants

Tip. Gardeners use sulfur in the garden to balance soil ph when the soil is too alkaline.

Most soils in the world are naturally lacking in certain minerals and nutrients. Although magnesium and sulfur are available naturally in the soil,  some soils have been depleted of these nutrients while others don’t have it anymore. some soils lack some nutrients due to:

  1. the area naturally does not have those minerals or nutrients
  2. Plants have used most of the available mineral or nutrients the past thousands of years if not millions of years.
  3. Heavy Agricultural use. In most areas where there is intensive farming, most of the soil nutrients have been used for growing crops.
  4. important topsoil or soil has been moved by erosion (carried by wind or washed away by water)

  

  

Uses of Epsom salt in the garden

There are many uses of Epsom salt in the garden. It is mostly used as

epsom salta natural fertilizer for plants (organic fertilizer) it is used as a soluble source of magnesium and sulfur. It is used as a natural fertilizer for plants at home like Tomatoes, pepper, garden egg, cucumber and many more.  it helps you achieve better growth and increase plant yield.

use to neutralize soil alkalinity, most plants require a balanced soil with a ph of between 6 and 7.5 if your soil is too alkaline, Epsom salt which has sulfur will help balance the soil ph.

tree stump removal If you have a tree stump and you don’t want to spend money to grind it or take it outs you can make a few holes on the tree stump and put Epsom salt in the holes and let it break it down for you.

How to use Epsom salt in the Garden

It is very easy to use Epsom salt in the garden.

Epsom salt for tomato and pepperEpson salt for Tomato

add 2 to 3 tablespoon of Epsom salt per hole before planting. put your seedling plant in the hole, cover it with compost or soil and water it. the Epsom salt will provide your plants the much-needed nutrients

each month after that mix 1 tablespoon per gallon of water or 1 tablespoon per foot height of each plant every 2 weeks during the growing season

Epsom salt for fruits and vegetables

Mix 1 tablespoon to a gallon of water and spray your plant’s leaves and base (root system). do this every month during the growth and flowering. stages. sprinkle 1 teaspoon per foot height of the plant at the base of each plant every two weeks during the growing season.

if you have already planted your plants, You can sprinkle 1 or 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt around the base of your plants and water the plants.

Epsom salt for a garden bed or raised bed

Get a nutrient-rich plant bed by mixing in the soil 2 cups of Epsom salt per 100 square feet of planting area.

  

  

  

Epsom salt for House plants

Mix two tablespoons per gallon of water and feed the plants monthly

Epsom salt for evergreens and Azaleas and Shrubs

sprinkle half a tablespoon around the base of the plants and shrubs every 2 to 4 weeks or you can mix half a cup per gallon of water and water with mixture over leaves and root zone every 3 to 4 weeks.

Epsom salt for Roses

 it is great for Roses, Petunias, and pansies. sprinkle 1 tablespoon per foot height of the plant at the base of each plant every two weeks. soak unplanted bushes 1 cup of Epsom salt to a gallon of water to help roots recover.

Epsom salt for trees

sprinkle around the base of the tree or water around the base  1 tablespoon of Epsom salt per gallon of water.

Epsom salt for repelling pest like slugs

Sprinkle Epsom salt around where they glide and you can say goodbye to slugs.

Epsom salt for Lawn

Do you want to have a  lush and green lawn, Apply 3 pounds for every 1,250 square feet with a spreader or dilute in water and apply with a sprayer.

Tips: If plant leaves are turning yellow it might be an indicator that the plant needs sulfur.

Unlike other chemical fertilizers that build up in the soil over time, Epsom salt is not persistent, that is you cannot overuse it.
